Turtle Talk

This project borrows an idea from the Surrealists called SUBSTITUTION. Using our sight size approach, we drew turtles from an image at http://etc.usf.edu//clipart. We then substituted an imaginary scene for the turtle’s shell. Final drawings were transferred to heavier paper and kids added color with colored pencils, watercolor pencils, or pastels. Some of the imaginary scenes included far off galaxies, beach landscapes, and fish aquariums. What IS the turtle concealing under his shell? We’ll never look at him the same way again!
